We are providing two new Acheeva Beds for Green Fold Special School in Bolton. These are unique work stations that allow children with physical disabilities as well as Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) to lie in a supported, balanced posture while participating in classroom learning.
The Acheeva Bed is compact and easily moveable, and its angle and height are adjustable, enabling the pupil to be at eye-level with their classmates, which increases their sense of inclusion. The design of the bed also has benefits for staff as it reduces back strain when moving and handling.
Jordana Whittleston, SENCO at Green Fold, says: “Since returning from lockdown we have found that many of our pupils’ postural needs have increased due to muscle and joint deterioration. The Acheeva provides versatile postural support for our pupils who are no longer able to access wedges or be positioned on the floor. We feel it is a more favourable piece of equipment as pupils are in a less vulnerable position and it promotes inclusion within group sessions.”
“A large proportion of our pupils are awaiting surgeries and the Acheeva work station will allow them to access their learning pre- and post surgery. In the future we would hope for all PMLD classes to have at least one Acheeva within the room.”
