Roman is just four years old and has been attending Zoe’s Place for around 2 and a half years. He has Down Syndrome with some associated complications, including developmental delays, but that doesn’t stop him from enjoying life to the fullest. He’s starting to speak and absolutely loves attending Zoe’s Place and interacting with the children and staff. Zoe’s Place has become like a second home for him, and it provides him the enjoyment and respite he needs. He knows the staff well and always looks forward to his visits. It’s a safe and familiar place where he can play freely while also receiving the care he needs.

One of his absolute favourite things is the soft play area, where he can run around and play in a safe and controlled space. He especially loves sensory toys, and spending time in the light room. Roman stays at the hospice for around two nights per month; because he is quite mobile, he always uses a Safespace cot during his stays, ensuring he can rest safely. His time at Zoe’s Place also includes regular sessions of physiotherapy and hydrotherapy, which help with his mobility and overall development.

“During winter months our admissions of children with respiratory conditions increase, so these saturation monitors are vital to us being able to safely monitor children. They will allow us to monitor more children both continuously through their stay with us and at intermittent times during their visit. Staff will find the additional units make their jobs easier.”
