Being in hospital can be distressing, frightening and boring for kids. For many years we have funded “Magic Medic” Louby-Lou to entertain children in hospital with her immersive, colourful and vibrant clown show, performing magic tricks and getting kids singing along to popular songs. This distracts them from their treatment and helps to cheer them up. Reducing their stress and anxiety can make a real difference to the speed of their recovery.

This year we are again raising funds for Louby Lou to provide 12 monthly visits to the children’s unit at Royal Bolton Hospital.  The unit provides planned and emergency care to children and young people 0-18 with medical and surgical needs. The senior health play specialist at Royal Bolton says: “Louby Lou has a history of visiting Bolton to provide health and wellbeing relief to both children, families and staff alike. The play team consider her a huge benefit to the children and allows time for laughter and conversation during a potentially difficult and stressful admission. Louby Lou allows for normality, socialising and in turn brings joy and respite from hospital treatments and procedures.”

“This donation has enabled us to use more varied and useful therapeutic toys and games when working with children and young people with mental health difficulties, as well as using extra clinic rooms which are now more child-friendly. This has helped reduced anxiety about coming to CAMHS and meant that family therapy can be done. Both parents of a 10 year old boy can now attend with their 5 year old as the youngest child can play with our new resources in the waiting room or clinic space. The 10 year old benefited from therapeutic games about thoughts/feelings and we were also able to observe imaginative play for assessment.”
