Thanks to donations from the David Brooke Charity and the Rotary Club of Lytham, the maternity unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital is benefiting from two new saturation monitors. The equipment uses the latest technology to read oxygen levels and identify when the baby is in need of additional support or oxygen. The unit still needs more of the monitors and MedEquip4Kids is fundraising to provide them.

Peter Langley, President of Lytham Rotary Club, was delighted to see a baby on the ward benefiting from the monitor, as his own son had to be in an incubator when he was first born. He said: “We support lots of local and national charities. We do as much as we can locally.”

Ward Sister Louise Paramel said: “The monitor allows the baby to move around and it will pick up anything serious. We’ve already had a few parents commenting on how good the monitor is.”

“The switch adapted toys have been a wonderful addition to our school. Both staff and children were thrilled to have some new exciting resources. The children love the lights and movement many of these switch toys have and are highly motivated to explore and investigate how to make them work. They have been great for pupils to develop their understanding of cause and effect and we have also noticed improved concentration and engagement when using them. Often it can be difficult to find toys that are robust enough to withstand lots of heavy use AND be interesting and fun. These new resources tick all those boxes. They have made a noticeable impact on the children’s development in this area.”
