Korede is seven years old and has a profound physical disability that limits his ability to sit independently and access many forms of sensory equipment. At Acorns Primary School in Preston, where all 94 pupils have complex physical and sensory needs, finding ways to support children like Korede to engage, communicate and feel comfortable is at the heart of everything staff do.

The arrival of a Sensory Musical Waterbed has made a tangible difference to what that support looks like for him.

Fully supported by the warm water, Korede’s body is able to relax in a way that isn’t possible in other positions. The gentle heat helps reduce the dystonic movements that typically restrict him, while the musical vibrations provide sensory stimulation he cannot access elsewhere. The result is a child who is calmer, more comfortable, and significantly more able to engage.

His teacher, Hannah Serventi, has seen the change directly. “Korede thoroughly enjoys the waterbed,” she says. “Usually held by dystonic movements and unsettled in different positions, he is relaxed, vocal and confident. In a calm state, he’s able to engage with teachers and friends whilst his body is comfortable and supported.”

The waterbed has been in daily use at Acorns since March 2026, benefiting all 94 pupils across the school, and is made possible by your support.
