We have been asked to provide 4 Overnight Sleeper Chairs to enable parents/carers to rest beside their children during a prolonged stay in hospital. The Children and Young People’s Unit at Royal Bolton currently has a small number of camp beds which are nearing the end of their useful life. There is limited space around each bed and the camp beds need to be swapped with the usual chair when a parent or carer needs to stay overnight with their child. There is also very little storage space for personal belongings.

The Overnight Sleeper Chairs requested can be positioned upright as an armchair during the day and easily converted into a bed at night for optimum comfort. The handy box space under the chair is useful storage space. There are many benefits to a parent staying with their child in hospital including the child being more cooperative to treatment and the parent feeling more involved. Getting a good nights sleep is essential for physical and emotional wellbeing for both parties.

Babies, children and young people are treated on the ward for a variety of conditions including respiratory illnesses, gastrointestinal and endocrine issues, neurological and chronic conditions, and those undergoing surgery or suffering a mental health crisis when no CAMHS beds are available. Parents/carers are a very integral part of children’s care during this time and these Sleeper Chairs will make a huge difference.

“The contribution of two Acheeva work stations has enhanced what we can offer to many children and students. Two young men are now able to access the larger workstations and their care and quality of life has improved dramatically. Michael now has the extra-large learning station available every day. Please thank everyone on our behalf who raised the money.”
