We’re proud to share that the Hummingbird Project has now supported over 10,000 pupils across the North West.

Since launching in 2017, our six-week Positive Psychology programme has been delivered free of charge by MedEquip4Kids in over 90 primary and secondary schools across Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire and Merseyside, helping children and young people develop confidence, resilience and practical strategies to support their mental health and wellbeing.

This milestone reflects both the impact of the programme and the growing need for early mental health support in schools. Teachers consistently tell us that pupils are experiencing increased levels of anxiety, low self-esteem and emotional distress, and that preventative interventions accessible to everyone are more important than ever.

Through the Hummingbird Project, pupils learn skills such as mindfulness, gratitude, recognising their character strengths, optimisms and growth mindsets: tools they can use in their everyday lives to improve wellbeing, happiness and resilience.

The project is delivered in partnership with our academic colleagues at the University of Greater Manchester, the University of Chester and the Open University, and continues to demonstrate measurable improvements in wellbeing and hope, alongside reductions in symptoms associated with anxiety and depression.

We would like to thank all the schools, volunteers, partners, funders and supporters who have helped us reach this milestone.

As demand continues to grow, we are seeking new partnerships and funding to expand the project and reach even more children and young people. If you would like to find out more or support our work, please get in touch.

“The switch adapted toys have been a wonderful addition to our school. Both staff and children were thrilled to have some new exciting resources. The children love the lights and movement many of these switch toys have and are highly motivated to explore and investigate how to make them work. They have been great for pupils to develop their understanding of cause and effect and we have also noticed improved concentration and engagement when using them. Often it can be difficult to find toys that are robust enough to withstand lots of heavy use AND be interesting and fun. These new resources tick all those boxes. They have made a noticeable impact on the children’s development in this area.”
