MedEquip4Kids is delighted to announce that Dr Edward Banham-Hall will be running the 2026 TCS London Marathon in support of the charity’s Hummingbird Project.

Taking place on 26 April, the London Marathon is one of the world’s most iconic running events, attracting tens of thousands of participants each year who take on the 26.2-mile challenge to raise funds for causes they care about.

Dr Banham-Hall kindly stepped forward to take on the challenge at short notice after our original runner was unfortunately forced to withdraw due to injury. We are incredibly grateful to Edward for taking on this demanding challenge and supporting the mental health of children and young people.

MedEquip4Kids is a Manchester-based charity that improves the physical and mental health of babies, children and young people across the North West. Alongside providing vital medical equipment for hospitals, the charity delivers the Hummingbird Project, a six-week Positive Psychology programme delivered in schools to help pupils build resilience, confidence and emotional wellbeing.

Since launching in 2017, the Hummingbird Project has supported more than 10,000 pupils in over 90 schools, giving young people practical tools to support their mental health, including mindfulness, gratitude, kindness and recognising their personal strengths.

The funds raised through the London Marathon will help MedEquip4Kids continue delivering this vital programme in schools and reaching more young people who need support with their wellbeing.

“Infections of the central nervous system need urgent and appropriate treatment. Most laboratory methods can take from 24 to 48 hours for diagnosis of bacterial meningitis and three to seven days for diagnosis of viral meningitis or encephalitis. The new equipment will mean we can get results of these tests in around an hour. We’ll be able to inform the clinicians of a positive result, allowing targeted therapy and reassurance to the patients and families. Just as important is the reporting of negative results, which may enable treatment withdrawal and possibly a shorter hospital stay.”
