We were delighted to hear that Professor Jerome Carson, who is Vice-Chair of Trustees at MedEquip4Kids, has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Greater Manchester for his research and his outstanding contribution to the academic community.

The achievement is underpinned by a remarkably prolific output: since joining the university’s psychology department in 2012, Professor Carson has supervised 36 PhD completions, 86 Master’s dissertations, and 127 undergraduate projects. In the past four years alone, he has co-authored eight academic books. He also holds leading research positions internationally in the fields of autoethnography and post-traumatic growth.

On top of all this, Jerome has been instrumental in helping MedEquip4Kids to set up and drive forward the Hummingbird Project, which has now reached 9,000 school pupils in the North West and is achieving measurable improvements in young people’s mental health. He continues to work in close partnership with us today, dedicating countless hours to the project as a trustee of our charity, the head of our research group, and a supervisor and mentor for our facilitators, Ian Platt and Sonia Ebenezer-Bamigbayan.

We simply cannot thank him enough for the kindness, enthusiasm and expertise that he continues to share so generously with us and so many others.

“The materials provided greatly help with the therapeutic process and engaging children, young people and their families in therapeutic work. The young people greatly appreciate having this equipment to use within their sessions. Many of the young people we see have a history of trauma including neglect and being able to access materials that they can use and enjoy is of great benefit and hopefully assists us to reinforce the messages of their worth as their self-concept is often very low.”
