Two fantastic MedEquip4Kids supporters took on the 2026 TCS London Marathon on Sunday 26 April, raising vital funds to support children’s mental and physical health.

The TCS London Marathon is one of the world’s most iconic mass participation events, bringing together elite athletes, charity runners and thousands of supporters along the 26.2-mile route from Greenwich and Blackheath to the finish on The Mall. This year’s event was one of the biggest in the marathon’s history, with tens of thousands of runners taking part and an estimated £95 million raised for charity.

Dr Edward Banham-Hall raised over £2,000 for the Hummingbird Project, MedEquip4Kids’ six-week Positive Psychology programme, which helps children and young people learn practical tools to support their mental health and wellbeing. Having signed up for the challenge just six weeks before the event, Ed’s achievement is even more impressive. In that short time, he raised a fantastic amount for children’s mental health while preparing to take on one of the world’s most famous marathons.

“The day itself was incredibly special. There was a real sense of collective purpose among runners and supporters, and the crowd support throughout the course was extraordinary. Running for the Hummingbird Project gave the experience an added sense of meaning.

Knowing that the funds raised will contribute to supporting children’s mental health made the effort feel worthwhile, especially during the more challenging sections. I’m very grateful for all the support from the charity team and from those who donated. It genuinely helped carry me through to the finish.”

Running for MedEquip4Kids was Christine Cornock, Trusts and Corporate Fundraiser at the charity, who raised nearly £1,500 towards medical equipment and enhanced facilities for children in NHS hospitals.

Everyone at MedEquip4Kids is hugely grateful to Ed and Christine for their dedication, training and fundraising, and to everyone who sponsored and supported them. The funds they have raised will make a real difference to children and young people, helping MedEquip4Kids continue its work to improve children’s mental health through the Hummingbird Project, and to provide medical equipment and enhanced facilities for children receiving care in NHS hospitals. “This donation has enabled us to use more varied and useful therapeutic toys and games when working with children and young people with mental health difficulties, as well as using extra clinic rooms which are now more child-friendly. This has helped reduced anxiety about coming to CAMHS and meant that family therapy can be done. Both parents of a 10 year old boy can now attend with their 5 year old as the youngest child can play with our new resources in the waiting room or clinic space. The 10 year old benefited from therapeutic games about thoughts/feelings and we were also able to observe imaginative play for assessment.”
