We hosted the MedEquip4Kids James Bond-themed Shimmer Ball on Saturday November 2nd, in which we raised £66,150 to improve the mental health of Britain’s children and young people by supporting Children and Young People’s (CYP) services provided by the Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust.

The £66,150 raised will go towards providing the CYP services with the vital resources needed to help improve their assessments, therapies, and intervention, which supports 2 children for every £1 spent.

The ball was hosted at The Edwardian, Radisson’s award-winning 5-star Spa Hotel in Grade II-listed Free Trade Hall, set at the heart of Manchester. The Shimmer Ball included a lovely 3-course meal, an auction of seven wonderful breaks and experiences, a raffle for a 1 carat diamond ring from Warren James Jewellers, and a casino, accompanied by music into the late hours.

Our Shimmer Ball was sponsored by VINCI Building and their partners, Chris Bowker Ltd., and Tilbury Douglas Ltd. Another big thank you to Branislav Trajkovski and Gail Armstrong. Further to that, our luxurious auction prizes were kindly sponsored by MultiHealth Specialists, Rose System Scaffolding, Inglenorth Contracting, Alan Johnston Partnership, Skeltonward, HardHat Logistics, and Classic Trax Memorabilia. The Heads & Tails game prize of an overnight stay at Forty-Seven was sponsored by Ryan Thompson, owner of the hotel, while Cadman Group donated a 10th series Apple Watch for our casino winner.

We’d also like to thank our auction prize winners: Richard Bowker, Danny Ayrton, Daniel Thorpe, Colleen McGarvey, Maria Hassall, Matt Gibson, and Barry Cleminson!

Speeches were made by Emma McGuigan, CEO, and Dominic McKenna, CFO, from the Trust, and Vice-Chair of our Trustees, Prof. Jerome Carson. A special thank you to The Edwardian and our Compere, Darren Proctor, for hosting an incredible event.

Thank you very much to everyone who attended and gave so generously.

“This donation has enabled us to use more varied and useful therapeutic toys and games when working with children and young people with mental health difficulties, as well as using extra clinic rooms which are now more child-friendly. This has helped reduced anxiety about coming to CAMHS and meant that family therapy can be done. Both parents of a 10 year old boy can now attend with their 5 year old as the youngest child can play with our new resources in the waiting room or clinic space. The 10 year old benefited from therapeutic games about thoughts/feelings and we were also able to observe imaginative play for assessment.”
