Over 200 guests arrived in style on Saturday at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel in central Manchester for the annual MedEquip4Kids Shimmer Ball. This year the event had a Las Vegas theme and featured a casino, as well as the popular Musical Bingo.

Following pre-dinner drinks and a sumptuous three-course meal, an auction was held for fabulous prizes including a West End theatre weekend in London, a media leisure package with all the latest gadgets, and dinner prepared by a private chef in your own home. As usual the raffle prize was a stunning diamond ring, kindly donated by Warren James. After that our guests danced the night away accompanied by a DJ. The playlist was in keeping with the Vegas theme, and of course included everyone’s favourite Elvis tracks.

The Shimmer Ball raised an amazing £37,000 to provide the equipment and resources needed to give babies and children better health. This year the proceeds are supporting a family room at the Rosemere Cancer Centre at Royal Preston Hospital.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and to our sponsors VINCI Construction UK, Bowkers, Cheshire Scaffolding, Plaster Plus, Imtech and RPS.

“The switch adapted toys have been a wonderful addition to our school. Both staff and children were thrilled to have some new exciting resources. The children love the lights and movement many of these switch toys have and are highly motivated to explore and investigate how to make them work. They have been great for pupils to develop their understanding of cause and effect and we have also noticed improved concentration and engagement when using them. Often it can be difficult to find toys that are robust enough to withstand lots of heavy use AND be interesting and fun. These new resources tick all those boxes. They have made a noticeable impact on the children’s development in this area.”
