Magic Medic Louby Lou is all set to entertain children at the Treehouse Unit in Stepping Hill Hospital for another year. This is thanks to a  generous donation of £16,000 from Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation to MedEquip4Kids.

The firm nominated MedEquip4Kids to be their Charity of the Year in 2016. The donation raised over the year will support Louby Lou, as well as projects at UHSM neo natal Unit and the North West and North Wales Paediatric Transport Service.

Louby Lou puts a smile back on little Ella’s face

Patient Ella Toole, Louby Lou and play specialist Jeanette Burden received the cheque on the charity’s behalf from Roy Beckett of Irwin Mitchell. Ella had been feeling poorly after a recent operation when Louby Lou arrived to distract and entertain her with magic tricks and balloon creations. The change in her was amazing and she was soon smiling again.

Play specialist Jeanette Burden says: “Louby Lou always manages to put a smile on children’s faces here at the Tree House, and we’d like to thank MedEquip4Kids and Irwin Mitchell for their kind donation which will ensure she’ll be paying us plenty more visits.”

A big thank you to Irwin Mitchell for their generous support

Roy Beckett, Regional Managing Partner at Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester office, said: “We are delighted to be able to provide this donation to a truly fantastic cause in our local community. Our Charity of the Year initiative is something that all of our employees are very passionate about. Everyone pitched in to raise funds in a variety of ways across 2016 to ensure we could provide quality support to this charity.”

Paul Cocker, Senior Fundraiser at MedEquip4Kids, said: “We are hugely grateful to everyone at Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester office for this fantastic donation. It will allow us to make a huge difference to a lot of people’s lives.

“Working with the firm across 2016 has been an absolute pleasure. We truly appreciate the hard work and effort which has gone into raising these vital funds.”

“The new outdoor area will boost mood and morale, creating social opportunities in a safe space free from medical interventions and providing distraction from pain and illness. It offers play opportunities for siblings too, helping to normalise the hospital environment and bridge the gap between home and hospital.”
