We are delighted to have received a £15,000 grant from the Cheshire Community Foundation to support the delivery of the Hummingbird Project in Warrington.

The funding will enable us to bring our six-week Positive Psychology course to schools located in areas of higher deprivation, reaching around 400 pupils. It will also provide each participating school with a box of resources to help children continue their learning after the course has finished.

The grant comes from a fund set up to reduce inequalities, improve health, and create opportunities for residents. Through the Hummingbird Project, young people will learn evidence-based ways to take care of their emotional wellbeing, including mindfulness, gratitude, kindness, resilience, hope and character strengths.

This support will be especially valuable for children and young people who may find it more difficult to access mental health support when they need it.

We are extremely grateful to Cheshire Community Foundation for their continued belief in the Hummingbird Project. Their support is particularly meaningful because they were also instrumental in helping us establish the project in Cheshire between 2018 and 2021, giving many more children the chance to learn skills that can support their wellbeing now and in the future.

“Infections of the central nervous system need urgent and appropriate treatment. Most laboratory methods can take from 24 to 48 hours for diagnosis of bacterial meningitis and three to seven days for diagnosis of viral meningitis or encephalitis. The new equipment will mean we can get results of these tests in around an hour. We’ll be able to inform the clinicians of a positive result, allowing targeted therapy and reassurance to the patients and families. Just as important is the reporting of negative results, which may enable treatment withdrawal and possibly a shorter hospital stay.”
