This year’s Impact Report marks a milestone in our journey to support children’s mental health and wellbeing across the North West. In the school year 2024–2025, a record 2,231 pupils from 29 schools took part in our six-week Positive Psychology programme, which introduces practical skills for improving mental health and wellbeing, such as mindfulness, gratitude, resilience and hope. A new controlled trial confirmed that the project significantly reduces emotional distress and boosts wellbeing and optimism for the future.

The year also saw several exciting developments: our first-ever Hummingbird Project Conference at the University of Greater Manchester, and new research to adapt the course for pupils with special educational needs. Altogether, the project has now reached over 9,000 pupils since its launch in 2017.

“The switch adapted toys have been a wonderful addition to our school. Both staff and children were thrilled to have some new exciting resources. The children love the lights and movement many of these switch toys have and are highly motivated to explore and investigate how to make them work. They have been great for pupils to develop their understanding of cause and effect and we have also noticed improved concentration and engagement when using them. Often it can be difficult to find toys that are robust enough to withstand lots of heavy use AND be interesting and fun. These new resources tick all those boxes. They have made a noticeable impact on the children’s development in this area.”
