We are delighted that Gail Armstrong will be running the London Marathon in April 2026 in support of our Hummingbird Project, a six-week course for schools to improve young people’s mental health.

Being one of the most active Female Health investors in the UK, Gail is already an inspiration and a role model to many. As a mum to a 10yr old son, she is very much aware of the mental health issues that an estimated one in four children and young people in the UK face, as well as the challenges faced by families that are struggling to get help they need.

Together with her family, Gail has been a supporter of the Hummingbird Project for several years and has seen the impact delivered by our charity. She has been touched and inspired by the positive change experienced by the kids participating in the Hummingbird Project, who are guided to find their character strengths, and ‘happier places’ in their lives.

Gail finds her ‘happy place’ in the freedom and flow of long-distance running. Growing up in the Irish and Scottish countrysides, she has loved running since her childhood. Gail completed her first half marathon in Toronto in 2014 and since then she has done numerous other half marathons, trail marathons and several ultra marathons — including the Windsor 50km Challenge and the 100km London to Brighton Ultra Marathon.

The London to Brighton 100km Ultra Marathon was her hardest race yet: an injury from early on, while heavy rain and biting wind pounded later. She was proud to finish, but recovery was tougher than expected — not just physically, but mentally too. Running has always been her way of processing the big things in life, so being injured left Gail frustrated and adrift. That struggle gave her clarity: her next big challenge had to mean more than just a personal challenge.

And so here she is, training for one of the most iconic marathons in the world — for the Hummingbird Project, for the children who deserve mental health support and tools to better equip them for life.

“The switch adapted toys have been a wonderful addition to our school. Both staff and children were thrilled to have some new exciting resources. The children love the lights and movement many of these switch toys have and are highly motivated to explore and investigate how to make them work. They have been great for pupils to develop their understanding of cause and effect and we have also noticed improved concentration and engagement when using them. Often it can be difficult to find toys that are robust enough to withstand lots of heavy use AND be interesting and fun. These new resources tick all those boxes. They have made a noticeable impact on the children’s development in this area.”
