The ducks: prepared and in-the-zone.
The date: Good Friday, April 18th.
The event: MedEquip4Kids’ 10th annual duck race at Salford Watersports Centre.
This was a particularly special duck race as we’re also celebrating our 40th anniversary – this is the first event in an exciting year! Our event raised an amazing £6,250. Thank you to all that came along as well as all our brilliant corporate sponsors.
The turnout for this event was fantastic, despite the rain. We sold a record 1,080 mini ducks! On the day, we hosted a great event, bringing many fun-filled activities to Salford Quays, including a tombola, face painting, and a carousel. We also had the wonderful Louby Lou entertain and bring smiles to all!
With hundreds of roaring fans (and after a false start!), the ducks were on their way and dashed to the finish line! Despite the egg-vent filled and bumpy race, ducks 516, 82, and 441 snatched 1st, 2nd, and 3rd!
The Corporate Duck Race, which featured ducks decorated by our lovely sponsors, Quartzelec, TSK Group, Kids Planet, Orega Management, Unite the Union, Skilled Personnel Consulting, Soapworks, Hall Brown Family Law, and BBK Partnership, was egg-quisite and dramatic! After a physical race, Soapworks pipped Quartzelec’s Glindaba with a narrow victory.
The rivalry between Quartzelec’s Glindaba and Soapworks’ brilliantly painted homage to Salford got feisty in not just the race, but also our Best-Dressed competition, with just 2 votes from members of the public in it! We had a wonderful range of fantastically decorated ducks: a Creeper from Minecraft, Construction Worker, Cowgirl, Easter Bunny, homage to Salford, “Glindaba”, a Cy-patriot, and a big-toothed union rep! Soapworks won over the hearts of the voters, scoring 47, while Glindaba trailed just behind with 45. Behind these fierce competitors, Kids Planet Day Nursery’s Easter Bunny duck came a valiant 3rd!
Overall, it was an egg-cellent day, which we are not just very proud of, but egg-tremely appreciative of all of you who attended and supported MedEquip4Kids! Keep an eye out for all future activities and great work that we do here and on social media!
