As a children’s health charity that supports the NHS, we’re doing everything we can to make sure the right equipment is on hand to treat the coronavirus and to reduce its impact on health and wellbeing. Since launching our Coronavirus Appeal in March, we’re delighted to say we’ve now have raised nearly £17,000 from our donors and from charitable trusts and companies. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed.
However, we still need funds to meet the needs of hospitals and healthcare teams across the North West during the pandemic and beyond. Below are some of the projects we’re supporting.
Sealed ultrasound scanner for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital
This vital piece of equipment is used in the treatment of patients with respiratory viral infections. Because it is clinically sealed, it can be thoroughly disinfected, decreasing the chance of cross-contamination. This makes it much easier and safer for staff to treat children and young people with suspected or confirmed COVID-19.
Suction machines for children in Tameside and Glossop
ISCAN (Integrated Service for Children with Additional Needs) supports 655 children in the community with disabilities and complex health needs. Many require regular suction treatment to keep their lungs clear of mucus and allow them to breathe more easily. The pandemic will see a rise in the numbers seeking treatment for breathing difficulties and this extra equipment will play a vital role in their care.
AIRVO optiflow units for Royal Bolton Hospital
These units deliver high flow oxygen to support children with breathing difficulties and prevent deterioration of their condition. They are used as a step up treatment from wall oxygen units and a step down for patients who have been ventilated or on CPAP.
Resources to support mental health
Since the pandemic over 80% of young people with anxiety, depression or OCD have reported worsening of their symptoms. We want to provide resources for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), including sensory toys, books, games, and art materials to help them continue supporting children’s mental health creatively.
We would be so grateful if you could donate to our appeal, either through our website or via JustGiving and help young people stay healthy during this crisis and afterwards. Thank you.
