The Paediatric Unit at Macclesfield District General Hospital cares for children from across East Cheshire aged from birth to 18.
A child’s condition can deteriorate very suddenly, and having the right equipment available can make all the difference in an emergency. At present there is no defibrillator on the ward, and staff must run to the adult wards to get hold of equipment in an emergency.
The defibrillator is a device that delivers an electric shock to the heart in order to stop certain forms of rapid heart rhythm disturbances. Voltage stored by the defibrillator pushes electrical current through the chest to deliver a muscle-contracting jolt to the heart. In the event of severe cardiac arrest these devices save lives, significantly cutting down on risk of serious brain injury and even death.
Beneficiaries: Children and babies across east Cheshire needing emergency care.
Total: £5,600
