Tameside General Hospital - Bilibed Unit
UPDATE: This project was completed in 2010.
Tameside General Hospital in Ashton under Lyne is undergoing major redevelopment work as part of the Making It Better strategy for the whole of Greater Manchester. The main feature of this is a new, purpose-built children’s unit at the hospital which will contain all of the children’s services for the area in one place.
In preparation for the new build being completed in 2011 the children’s units and departments are updating their equipment ready to move into the new build.
The Bilibed is used to treat babies with jaundice in the early days following delivery. Jaundice is a common condition in newborn babies and can be very serious, particularly in pre-term babies, where neo-natal care is essential. In less severe cases however, a bilibed can be used on the post-delivery ward and this enables babies to stay with their mother and retain contact and natural breastfeeding. This bed is for use on the Neo Natal Unit for babies no longer needing incubator care.
Beneficiaries: Newborn babies suffering from jaundice.
Total: £1,995
