Tameside General Hospital - Vital Signs Monitor

UPDATE: This project was completed in 2010.

Tameside General Hospital in Ashton under Lyne is undergoing major redevelopment work as part of the Making It Better strategy for the whole of Greater Manchester. The main feature of this is a new, purpose-built children’s unit at the hospital which will contain all of the children’s services for the area in one place.

In preparation for the new build being completed in 2011 the children’s units and departments are updating their equipment ready to move into the new build.

The Paediatric Day Case Unit treats children who can be admitted and discharged within one day. At present four children attend for transfusions, and only two monitors are available. This monitor would enable much closer monitoring of these very sick children. The monitors would also be used for children needing a tonsillectomy. The monitors provide accurate readings of heart rate, oxygen levels, temperature and blood pressure, and these readings are given without having to disturb the child.

Beneficiaries: Children needing operations and transfusions.
