Stepping Hill Hospital - Apnoea Monitors x6

The Children’s Nursing Team at Stepping Hill Hospital in Greater Manchester treats 6,000 children and babies each year. Of these approximately 400-500 are babies under six months old with potential respiratory problems or who have a history of stopping breathing (apnoea attacks). These babies must be monitored at all times to alert medics if breathing stops.

Medical staff on the unit have approached us for help in providing seven Apnoea Monitors. This will ensure that all babies have the most up to date monitors available in order to receive the best possible care.

These monitors save lives by alerting staff immediately if a baby’s breathing becomes irregular or stops. By responding instantly in most cases the problem can be quickly rectified. The implications if problems are not spotted straight away are severe brain damage or even death.

We have agreed to provide seven of the monitors, at a cost of £550 each. This will give a total project cost of £3,850. As a charity we do not pay VAT on medical items.
