The Tree House Unit at Stepping Hill Hospital treats children from 0 to 16. By providing the latest in medical technology, we can significantly reduce the need for children to be moved to other hospital sites. Often improvements in patient care happen more quickly than NHS budgets can keep pace with. Although the ward currently has equipment to perform this function, it is outdated and cumbersome. This new equipment is more accurate and effective, reducing the risk of infection and matching the standard of care at the regional centres of excellence.
This pump is designed for administering fluid to very sick children. It is used in the most severe cases, often where life is threatened. It offers the safest treatment currently on the market, and is particularly beneficial when treating small children, as it is more important to get exactly the right amount of a drug.
The provision of these pumps would help to bring the standard of care up to that offered at the specialist Paediatric Units. As well as allowing treatment to be carried out more quickly, it would massively reduce the pressure on the family at a very difficult time.
Each unit will cost £3,035.50. We hope to provide four of these devices, with a total cost of £12,142.
