Southport General Infirmary is a busy regional centre, taking patients from across Northern Merseyside and West Lancashire, including Skelmersdale, the Merseyside coast and Ormskirk. The Eye / ENT Unit is sees children for diagnosis as well as treatment and surgery. Over 180 children are seen each year on the unit for surgery, either as day case patients or as in patients.
After surgery it is vital to maintain fluids, and the infusion pump is used to give intra venous fluids immediately after surgery. This helps to rehydrate the child and improves the health of the child following surgery.
The model currently in use on the unit is very old and not compatible with the one being used on the main children’s surgical ward. It is important to maintain continuity because this helps with accuracy, and ease of transfer if a child is later admitted to the ward.
The infusion pump will cost £3,425.00. It will be used exclusively at the Eye / ENT Clinic at Southport General Infirmary. As a charity if we purchase these items we can negotiate a cheaper price and we do not pay VAT.
