Salford Royal Hospital - Syringe Pumps x2

UPDATE: This equipment was delivered in 2007.

The neo natal unit at Hope Hospital, Salford, is a busy regional centre, accepting premature and very sick babies from hospitals across the North West. The unit has 19 cots in total, nine of which are intensive care, and the remaining 10 High Dependency. The unit can accept babies from as early as 23 weeks, and weighing as little as 450g.

The Ward Manager has asked us to provide improved syringe pumps for treating babies effectively. These pumps are designed for administering drugs to very sick or premature babies. When tiny pre-term babies require medication it is vital to ensure that the quantity is exactly right. A very small variation can have a huge effect when babies may weigh as little as 2lb. This Syringe Pump allows medical staff to be confident that exactly the required amount is being delivered, and therefore gives much greater peace of mind to family members.

The pumps currently on the unit are in daily use, and are in constant need of repair. The newer versions on the market have the benefit of being specially designed for pre-term babies to reduce the incidence of drug errors.

Each pump will cost £2,086, and two are required. They will be exclusively for use by the neo-natal unit, Hope Hospital, Salford.
