We have been approached by staff at the Royal Bolton Hospital for help in providing a resuscitaire for use in the delivery suites in the first few moments of a child’s life.
The resuscitaire is a purpose-built trolley, which contains vital oxygen and ventilation facilities along with suction and overhead heaters. These are used whenever a baby requires any form of immediate support following a delivery. Providing this medical support within the first few moments can have a significant impact on the long term condition of the baby, and dramatically reduces the mortality rate.
At present the unit at Bolton does not have enough resuscitaires to equip each delivery suite. It is an accepted standard that there should be a resuscitaire available in each delivery room at the time of the delivery of every infant. At present, the staff have too few units and this can mean that just minutes after birth, the baby must be rushed to another suite to receive this treatment. This can be very traumatic for the mother, and can lead to great distress.
There are more than 1,800 deliveries each year in the hospital and we would like to provide this equipment so that there are immediate life saving resuscitation facilities available for every infant.
The resuscitaire costs £9,240.00.
