The Paediatric Department at Ormskirk District General Hospital treats up to 28 children at any time. Up to 3,000 children are treated each year on the unit. Patients come to the hospital from throughout the Ormskirk area, as well as across Southport, Formby and the northern part of Merseyside. The hospital has recently taken on a much greater commitment, following the closure of the Children’s Ward at Southport.
We have been asked to provide five Oxygen Saturation Monitors. These monitor the levels of oxygen in the blood of very sick children suffering from respiratory illness, such as asthma and bronchial infections. Often improvements in medical technology happen more quickly than NHS budgets can keep pace with. Although the ward currently has equipment to perform this function, it is outdated and not as accurate. This new equipment is more effective, matching the standard of care at the regional centres of excellence.
Each monitor will cost £1,000.00, and five are required. We are seeking a donation of £5,000.00 to allow us to purchase these monitors.
