Royal Blackburn Hospital – Breast Pump (10-033)

1 x breast pump with stand

Breast milk is important for all babies, but for those with health problems it can be life-saving. When mothers are kept on the high risk delivery suite for any length of time, it is usually due to serious complications which mean the baby might be in the neo natal unit, or the mother might be unable to feed naturally. When that happens it is important for breast milk to be expressed so the baby can still receive the milk.

This is an electric breast pump that is more effective at expressing milk than the hand-held pumps. New mothers struggle to express, and many may be ill or suffering from the effects of a traumatic labour.
