Royal Blackburn Hospital – Multisensory Room (10-025)

Multisensory White Room Equipment

In December 2010 the Children’s Unit at Blackburn will expand from a 35-bedded unit to 51 beds. This is following the closure of the Children’s Ward at Burnley. In preparation for this, the unit is expanding, and the medical team are very keen to make the new unit child-friendly for all patients.

The new design for the Children’s Unit will include a multisensory room. This will be predominantly for use by children with special needs, but also for any other children who are stressed or upset when visiting hospital. For children with profound disabilities, these rooms can calm and allow medical professionals to carry out procedures. They are of particular benefit to those with autism and children with learning difficulties.
