Multisensory Room Equipment
The Royal Bolton Hospital has planned a new multisensory room for its young patients. The design will create a friendly environment for children visiting the hospital. Making a hospital visit a pleasurable experience helps children to be relaxed and receptive. For children who need repeated care over months or years it can make a significant difference to the success of treatment.
The new room will be predominantly for children with special needs, but also for other children who may benefit. For children with profound disabilities, these rooms can calm and allow medical professionals to carry out procedures. They are of particular benefit to those with Autism and children with learning difficulties.
A calm atmosphere would allow those with anxiety or tension the opportunity to relax and express their emotions safely.
The new room will include bubble tubes, light displays, a soft floor and walls, music and scent and interactive toys designed for children with a range of sensory and learning disabilities. It will be accessible by children in wheelchairs and hospital beds, and will be available to any child who is distressed or scared.
Beneficiaries: Children needing care in Bolton and the surrounding area.
Total: £9,012
UPDATE: The multisensory equipment was fully funded and ordered in March 2012
