The children’s unit at Calderdale Hospital takes children from across West Yorkshire and is a large regional centre. The new unit opened three years ago, as part of the new development at Halifax, and we have been working with the team there for two years to make it welcoming and child-friendly.
The play therapy and nursing teams are keen to make the ward feel more like a children’s space, to make children feel welcome and to make the space more user-friendly. They want to create clear signs to show visitors and children their way around. They also want to make the nurses’ stations more accessible to children. Finally they want to make the treatment rooms more welcoming and relaxing, to help with reducing anxiety.
We are now funding the final stage of the project and you can read more about the work now completed.
