Wythenshawe Hospital - Sonicaids

Wythenshawe Hospital runs an antenatal clinic for all expectant mothers to help with early diagnosis of problems and to prepare parents for birth. The sonicaid, or foetal Doppler, is a handheld device which listens to the baby’s heart rate.
This enables midwives and doctors to assess foetal wellbeing and, where there is a suspicion of underlying problems such as Brachycardia or irregular heartbeat, the mother can be referred to specialists prior to birth to increase the chances of a successful outcome for the baby.
