The Neo Natal Unit at Stepping Hill Hospital cares for between 250 and 300 babies each year. The unit is currently being upgraded and equipment that is becoming old and outdated is being replaced. The Unit will be expanding as part of the new structure of children’s healthcare in Greater Manchester and the staff are keen to ensure that they are ready to provide the level of care necessary.

On first admission all pre-term babies spend time in an incubator to regulate their body temperature and oxygen.   They remain in the incubator for up to two weeks until they can be ventilated and placed in cots. This new model has two opening doors that improve accessibility and contact, and provide better humidification than the older models.
