Rochdale Infirmary - Dash Monitors x2

UPDATE: This equipment was delivered in 2008.

The Children’s Unit at Rochdale Infirmary cares for up to 20 children and babies at any one time, with further beds available for day case patients who come in for minor surgery and other procedures and are discharged later that day.

The Children’s Unit is currently being improved and modernised to offer more services, and the priority is to improve the existing High Dependency bed to ensure more children can be treated on site. This ensures that children can receive appropriate care more quickly, and reduces the need for seriously ill children to be transferred to other hospitals in the area.

The Children’s Unit has asked us to provide two Dash Monitors for use on children who are very seriously ill and need constant monitoring. The Dash Monitors read heart rate, respiration rates, oxygen levels, temperature and blood pressure.

Providing this equipment will reduce invasive treatment by allowing rapid response to any change in condition. These monitors will be used until a child is stabilised sufficiently to be transferred back to the ward, or in severe cases, to be transferred to one of the regional intensive care units in Manchester.

Each Dash Monitor will cost £5,065. We have pledged to purchase two to ensure that the ward has the most up to date equipment for treating children and babies. The total cost will be £10,130.
