Stepping Hill Hospital - Monitoring Equipment

Maternity Ward Two at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport is a High Dependency Maternity Unit, caring for neonates following complications in pregnancy or childbirth. The unit cares for newborn babies from birth up to 3 or 4 weeks, and can take up to 28 babies at any time.

Midwives are increasingly being asked to assess babies in the very early days of life to detect any early signs of hearing or sight problems or other difficulties. We have been asked to provide a number of items to ensure safe delivery and early detection of any problems.

The Unit would like an Opthalmoscope for early examination of the eyes and checking the eye reflexes. They have also asked for three digital thermometers for quick and safe reading of temperature of the baby both during labour and immediately after.

They have asked for a hand-held Ultrasound Doppler, used to listen to the baby’s heart rate while still in the womb. This allows early detection of any problems, allowing staff to respond quickly if the baby becomes distressed.

We have also agreed to provide a Twin Fetal Monitor, because the unit deals with more complex births such as twins.

The total cost of this equipment is £3,692.40. We do not pay VAT on medical items.
