Christie Hospital - Volumetric Infusion Pumps
UPDATE: This equipment was delivered in 2010.
The Christie Hospital in Manchester is a world-renowned cancer centre, treating patients from across the north west and even further afield. The Young Oncology Unit treats patients aged 16-25, and takes up to 13 patients at any one time. The Unit also provides radiotherapy treatment to children aged 3-16 as outpatients.
We have been asked to replace five Volumetric Infusion Pumps. These pumps are designed for administering fluid in tiny and very specific doses. This is very important for chemotherapy patients, where very precise quantities of drugs must be delivered accurately.
There are already infusion pumps available on the unit, but as technology improves and newer, more accurate models come onto the market it is not always possible to replace all the older models immediately. With other priorities and a constant list of new equipment being needed not everything can be provided at once.
These items are being gradually introduces across the hospital and we would like to ensure that they are available immediately to younger patients, where precise quantities are even more important. The pumps cost a total of £8,250.00.
