Chorley & South Ribble Hospital - Electric Breast Pumps

UPDATE:  This equipment has been delivered

We have been approached by medical staff from the neo natal unit at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital for help in providing an Electric Breast Pump, to assist mothers to express milk for very sick and pre-term babies.

This state-of-the-art piece of equipment is much more effective than equipment currently on the unit and will help mothers to easily produce natural breastmilk for their babies. The pump will be of great benefit during the first few days after delivery when many mothers find it difficult to express milk, a problem that is increased by the stress of having a premature labour and a sick baby. It is particularly important for these seriously ill babies to receive breastmilk, as it helps the baby to build up immunity and gain weight at a critical time.

The neo natal unit takes babies from across south Lancashire and, by providing improved equipment for the unit, we are helping to eliminate the need for babies to be transferred to the regional facilities such as St Mary’s Hospital in Manchester. This allows mother and baby to stay together, thereby helping the bonding process.

Two pumps are required, costing £445.00 each. The total amount required is £890.00.
