Clatterbridge Hospital - Child Development Centre

UPDATE: This project was completed in 2009.

The Child Development Centre based at Clatterbridge Hospital is a specialist facility for children from across the Wirral who have been diagnosed with some form of developmental delay, due to conditions such as Cystic Fibrosis, Down's Syndrome, Autism or birth trauma. The Wirral sees an average of 400 children born each year with some form of developmental delay, and the clinic has an average of 5,000 children on its books at any time.

The procedures and investigations carried out at the Child Development Centre can be intrusive and painful. For children subjected to repeated treatment over a number of years, it is common to find that a fear can develop, and as a result it can be harder for medical staff to provide the care needed

We want to help all the children treated at the Child Development Centre to feel valued and welcomed.  To achieve this we are supplying multi-sensory and distraction items for use in the treatment rooms and also specialist chairs to allow children with complex physical needs to be comfortable during their wait.

We are also aiming to provide a chill-out zone to help children cope with stressful examinations and treatments. The total cost will be £19,452.88. To date we have raised just over £11,000 and have ordered the first phase of the equipment.
