Royal Bolton Hospital - Defibrillator

UPDATED:  This equipment was purchased in March 2008

The Royal Bolton Hospital is a busy regional centre, catering for patients across Bolton, parts of Lancashire and into Manchester. Each year over 27,000 children are seen at the hospital, and many of these are suffering from serious illnesses that can result in cardio-respiratory problems.

The hospital have asked us for help to provide four Defibrillators to be used in Children’s Services. The Defibrillator is a device that delivers an electric shock to the heart in order to stop certain forms of rapid heart rhythm disturbances. Voltage stored by the defibrillator pushes electrical current through the chest to deliver a muscle-contracting jolt to the heart.

In the event of severe cardiac arrest these devices save lives, and the more that are available at the hospital the quicker a child can receive this treatment, significantly cutting down on risk of serious brain injury and even death.

The total cost of providing the four defibrillators is £23,544. One has already been purchased, and we are still seeking £16,563.
