31.05.12Babies in Ormskirk given the gift of life
When a baby comes along, it’s a time of great joy, but when the baby comes too early, that joy can change to stress and worry. For parents whose babies are premature or are born with serious health complications, the best they can hope is that their baby will have access to the newest medical technology to give them the best chance of a healthy future.
That’s where MedEquip4Kids can help. The charity provides cutting edge medical technology. The charity believes every baby should have access to the best medical care when they need it most.

Babies like Summer. Summer was born at Ormskirk District General Hospital on 15
th April this year, weighing just 2lb 2oz. Summer’s mum, Kate, said “Summer spent the first three and a half weeks in an incubator just like the one MedEquip4Kids have provided. She’s doing really well now, and she doesn’t need the incubator any more, but it really was so important in the first few weeks.”
Summer wasn’t due to come along until June 29th, but the medical team are so pleased with her progress that they hope she’ll be able to go home to Newburgh this week.
Staff from MedEquip4Kids visited the Neo Natal Unit at Ormskirk District General Hospital this week to present a new incubator to the hospital. The incubator, which will perform a vital role in protecting extremely vulnerable newborn babies like Summer, was joint funded by the NHS trust and the charity.
MedEquip4Kids welcomed donors from across Ormskirk and Merseyside to see the incubator and to meet the staff. Representatives from Lions’ Clubs from across the region were there, along with ladies from the Inner Wheel and a member of staff from Dickenson Parker Hill Solicitors.

Vicky Bunnage, Projects Co-ordinator for MedEquip4Kids said: “It was lovely to meet Summer and her mum, and to hear about how important this equipment is. We’ve been overwhelmed by the support from within Ormskirk for this project. The town has really got behind this project. “
Shirley Coward, Matron for Paediatric and Neonatal Services said “We’d like to say thank you to MedEquip4Kids and to all their supporters for joint funding this incubator. It will make such a difference to the babies we care for.”
