A trio of adrenalin junkies who battled their way through 12 miles of bogs and mud have raised £2,000 for mothers-to-be at Stepping Hill Hospital.
Simon Dale, Christopher Skilling and David Millen have funded five sonicairds for the delivery suite at Stepping Hill by participating in the Hell Up North off-road challenge in Delamere Forest.
The trio raised £2,065 in aid of MedEquip4Kids, which used the donation to fund the sonicairds. Sonicairds are hand-held devices used to listen to an unborn baby's heartbeat to ensure they are coping with labour and not at risk.
Along with the sonicairds for Stepping Hill, the money was also used to fund an additional three sonicairds for the ante-natal clinic at Wythenshawe Hospital.
Simon, Christopher and David, who all work together for Manchester-based insurance brokers, Marsh Ltd, visited Stepping Hill Hospital to see the equipment in place and meet some of the people benefiting from their donation.
MedEquip4Kids' Rachel Allen said: "Before we were able to provide these handheld sonicairds, mothers needed to be attached to a larger machine making it harder for them to move around during delivery. Thanks to the Marsh team, this new equipment is going to benefit hundreds of mothers and their new babies."
